Kathu just got a shiny new hangout, and it’s already pulling a crowd. The Shift Space & Bar soft-opened last week and officially launches on December 1st with a daytime DJ party — very on-brand for a spot that blends café culture with bar energy.

Think: industrial-cool interiors, sunlight pouring through big windows, coffee that actually wakes you up, matcha for the girlies, and a menu of easy bites and desserts that early reviewers are already giving 5-stars across the board.

Google Maps is calling it “fantastic and delicious” with a lively-but-still-talkable vibe — the kind of place where you can start with a latte, stay for lunch, and somehow end up dancing before 3PM. Kathu needed this.

Phuket is in the middle of a major transport glow-up — and you may have already spotted the first signs. The island’s new electric buses are now running along the planned Light Rail Transit (LRT) route, a preview of the full 42 km system that will eventually link the airport all the way down to Chalong Intersection. The complete LRT is targeting 2031, but the groundwork is already rolling.

Meanwhile, a brand-new expressway connecting the airport to Patong is gearing up. Phase 1 starts in 2026, followed by Phase 2 in 2027, and once finished, that famously painful 1.5-hour airport-to-Patong trek could shrink to a breezy 20 minutes.

It’s giving… future Phuket. Faster, cleaner, and maybe — just maybe — a little less traffic chaos.
