Hey Phuket Fam,

Before we dive into sunshine and brunch plans, our hearts are with Hat Yai and Songkhla this week. The floods have hit hard, and Phuket is rallying with donations, drives, and community support. As the island dries out and high season kicks in, let’s keep the South in our thoughts and continue supporting however we can.

WEATHER IN PHUKET

Sunshine is making a comeback in Phuket this week, with warmer days and fewer showers on the horizon. As the south continues to recover from flooding, we’ve shared where you can donate and lend a hand below.

Your Perfect Phuket Morning β€” Hike Black Rock, Then Brunch at Wilson’s

This trail, also called Pa Hin Dam, sits on Phuket’s southeast coast, above Nai Harn Beach. It’s steep, with real climbs and 100% worth it.

If you’ve been craving a morning that feels a little earned, here’s your sign: start with the Black Rock Viewpoint hike β€” but heads up, it’s not the casual 30-minute wander people often claim. It’s a steep, moderate trail with real climb sections, so I’d definitely link out to a proper breakdown before sending anyone up there.
πŸ‘‰ Full trail details here.

Black Rock rewards you quickly, though β€” jungle shade, glimpses of Nai Harn and Ya Nui, and that famous cliff-edge panorama that feels like Phuket’s version of a movie scene.

And once you’re back down? Wilson’s CafΓ© in Rawai is the perfect landing spot. Think smashed avo on crisp baguette, breakfast bruschetta with pesto and feta, or the Big Brunch for anyone who’s really earned their feast. Add proper coffee, cooling smoothies, and that calm, leafy Rawai vibe β€” the ideal way to stretch a sweaty hike into a whole slow, delicious morning.

NEW ON THE MAP

Something New on the Island: SōL 🌞

There’s a fresh kid on the Boat Avenue lakefront, and it’s already giving β€œnew local clubhouse” energy. SōL is an all-day diner that refuses to specialise – coffee spot, brunch hub, dinner date, cocktail bar, remote-work hideout… it’s all of the above and somehow it works.

Think comfort favourites (spag bol, kraprao, salads, short rib, squid ink pasta) alongside creative plates from Michelin-starred chef Top Russell, plus seriously good coffee and grown-up cocktails. The space is big, leafy, muralled, and built for lingering – laptop in the morning, date night lighting from 7:30pm.

Pet-friendly corners, plenty of parking, and a crew who actually remember you.

Find your SōL-mates here:

FUN FACT

Phuket Has Its Own Local Lingo

If you’ve ever felt like Phuket has its own rhythm, wait until you hear the way locals speak. Beyond standard Thai, the island has its very own southern dialect β€” warm, quick, and a little bit cheeky. Phuket Thai rolls off the tongue with a sing-song edge, and once you start catching the phrases, you’ll feel instantly more β€œlocal-ish.”

A couple of gems to slip into your weekend vocabulary:
β€œSap sap” β€” easy, breezy, no problem at all.
β€œLub mai?” β€” a friendly β€œshall we go?” or β€œyou coming?”

Listen closely at markets, noodle shops, and your favourite beach bar β€” you’ll catch snippets floating through conversations like island seasoning. And if you drop a β€œsap sap” at the right moment, don’t be surprised if you get a smile of approval.

Language is culture, after all β€” and Phuket’s has its own sunshine.
