Merry Christmas from all of us at Phuket Community!
Phuket is unique on Christmas and New year’s.
Sun, sand, and no awkward family small talk.
Here’s the vibe:
Festive vibes, island style
Get to swap your winter coat for swimwear.
Instead of mulled wine, you’ve got a fresh coconut in hand.
No snow, but sunsets so good they’ll make your Instagram pop.
Luxury villas decked out for the holidays
You’re not just booking a room; you’re getting a whole experience.
Think private pools, beach access, and staff who treat you like royalty.
And yes, they’ll put up a Christmas tree.Dinners you’ll actually enjoy
Forget the dry turkey.
We’re talking seafood feasts, Thai curries, and desserts that hit differently in paradise.
Why celebrate here?
Memories that don’t suck
Ever sat by the beach, fireworks lighting up the sky, drink in hand?
Exactly.
That beats freezing your toes off any day.Island adventures
Snorkelling on Christmas morning.
Island-hopping instead of fighting over board games.
And yes, massages are a must.
What’s the catch?
It’s peak season. Villas fill up fast.
Translation: You’ve gotta book early or settle for FOMO.Flights can get pricey. But can you really put a price on waking up to the sound of waves?
My takeaway?
If you’re tired of the same old festive routine, this is where you need to be.
Phuket knows how to do the holidays right.
Skip the drama.
Celebrate with the ocean as your backdrop.
And hey, you’ll finally have a Christmas worth bragging about.
đź’± Do you think Bitcoin could replace traditional currency in Thailand?
Former premier Thaksin Shinawatra thinks so. He recently suggested testing Bitcoin in Phuket through a sandbox project. The idea? Encourage digital currency holders to spend their crypto locally.
But is this practical?
The Thailand Development Research Institute (TDRI) has concerns:
Volatility: Digital currencies like Bitcoin are known for their price swings.
Economic Confusion: Introducing a government-backed coin could compete with the baht, causing confusion.
Central Bank Opposition: Many central banks fear such moves might undermine confidence in local currencies.
Investment strategists also warn that using Bitcoin alongside the baht could:
Threaten Stability: It might destabilise the baht.
Erode Financial Confidence: Public trust in the financial system could wane.
They suggest observing experiments in leading economies before making decisions.
Interestingly, some Thai shops already accept Bitcoin. If Thailand were to adopt this policy, it might not need to limit trials to Phuket. A nationwide test could be more effective.
However, implementing such a system requires:
Simplicity: The payment process should be straightforward.
Digital Currency Supply: An adequate supply in the system is essential.
Security Measures: Robust security systems are a must.
Contingency Plans: Backup solutions for internet outages are necessary.
Before diving in, Thailand should learn from other countries' experiences. A misstep could damage the credibility of both the government and the Bank of Thailand. Starting with a small sandbox project could help control risks and allow for adjustments as needed.

In summary, while the idea of adopting Bitcoin in Thailand is intriguing, it's essential to proceed with caution, considering potential risks and learning from global examples.
🌊 The 20th Anniversary of the Devastating Tsunami
Phuket is gearing up for a major event this Thursday (26/12) to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the devastating tsunami.
Back in 2004, the tsunami hit Thailand and other Asian countries out of nowhere.
Thousands of lives lost.
People left wondering, Could this have been avoided?
Now, 20 years later, things have changed.
Thailand’s warning system is solid. But is it enough?
Here’s what you need to know:
Phuket’s Tsunami Warning Towers
They have: 136 towers across the coastline, ready to blast sirens if trouble’s coming.
But they’re not just towers. These are lifelines.Drills and Alerts
They run tests every now and then.
Locals and tourists get alerts straight to their phones.
Think of it as a fire drill—but for your life. The Big Question
Can the system handle the next big one?
Experts say yes, but the gear needs upgrades.
Imagine relying on a 20-year-old phone. Same vibe.
Here’s what stood out to me:
Lessons Learned
The 2004 disaster taught Thailand—and the world—a harsh lesson.
You can’t stop nature, but you can prepare for it.Real-Life Heroes
After the tsunami, stories of survival and community strength came out.
Families sharing food, strangers becoming friends.
That’s the human spirit for you.
So, are Phuket and Thailand ready?
Mostly, yes. But it’s a work in progress.
My takeaway?
Preparation is everything.
Whether it’s a natural disaster or life throwing curveballs, staying ready is non-negotiable.
And hey, next time you’re in Phuket, maybe take a second to notice those towers.
They’re there for a reason.
